VOC: The First $7 Trillion Corporation

They were the world’s first multinational corporation and the inventors of the stock market. But the Dutch East India Company (VOC) was also a brutal empire that traded in spices, slaves, and war. In this video, we explore the history of the Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie (VOC). Established in 1602, the VOC ushered in two centuries of Dutch dominance. From the invention of public stock to the "Heeren 17" board of directors, we look at how this corporate giant operated.
